This small-group, non-riding program helps young people reconnect with nature, peers, purpose, and themselves through meaningful interaction with rescued horses, minis, donkeys, and mules.

Led by Hannah Lee, recent graduate of Houghton University and Stable Manager at Peaceful Acres Horses.

Today’s youth are increasingly disconnected from healthy face-to-face interaction, outdoor activity, meaningful responsibility, and emotional connection. Many young people are spending excessive time indoors, isolated on phones, computers, gaming systems, and social media, often contributing to anxiety, insecurity, emotional withdrawal, loneliness, lack of confidence, and difficulty connecting with peers in healthy ways.

Parents are concerned. Schools are seeing it. Communities are feeling it.

Unplugging to Connect was created to offer young people something real.

Through equine-guided experiential learning and equine-led leadership activities, youth engage directly with rescued horses in ways that naturally build emotional awareness, communication skills, confidence, empathy, leadership, responsibility, and trust.

Horses are highly intuitive animals that respond honestly and immediately to human behavior, energy, emotions, and body language. Unlike electronics or social media, horses require young people to become present, calm, aware, patient, respectful, and connected in the moment.

The Horses Help Teach:

  • Emotional regulation
  • Confidence and self-awareness
  • Healthy communication
  • Relationship-building and trust
  • Patience and responsibility
  • Leadership and teamwork
  • Calmness and mindfulness
  • Compassion and empathy

Participants Will Experience:

  • Hands-on equine care and horsemanship
  • Learning about rescued horse rehabilitation and recovery
  • Building relationships and trust with horses
  • Leadership and teamwork activities
  • Confidence and emotional growth
  • Healthy peer interaction
  • Outdoor activity away from screens and electronics
  • Compassion, responsibility, and connection through animal care

The peaceful farm environment encourages youth to unplug from technology and reconnect with nature, movement, healthy social interaction, and authentic experiences.

This is a highly individualized small-group program intentionally designed to create a safe, supportive, healthy, and emotionally grounding environment for young people who may be struggling to feel connected, confident, or engaged in today’s fast-paced digital world.

Small groups only — maximum of 6 participants.

Ideal For:

  • Families
  • Churches and youth ministries
  • Homeschool groups
  • Counseling and therapeutic offices
  • Community organizations
  • Youth-serving nonprofits
  • Leadership and mentoring programs

Because today’s youth need more than screen time.
They need connection.
