Ellie Mae is an aged Percheron who was saved by Peaceful Acres Horses after years of being overworked as a draft horse. She was in the kill pen with a painful injury to her head and we knew we had to get her veterinary intervention as soon as possible. Once in PAH’s care, her recovery took months of veterinary intervention to heal. During that time Ellie had to learn how to trust us and release her fear of people. She bonded with our other Draft horses and a couple of her caregivers who were responsible for her direct care. Through that time she began to thrive and show her true personality of being gentle, sweet and a source of peace and calm to people and other horses.
Ellie Mae’s best friend is AH’s Clydesdale Ulysses who was also saved from the slaughter pipeline. Together they welcome guests to the sanctuary who come to meet the rescues, participate in a coaching program or utilize our property as a retreat or workshop location.
Ellie Mae is a very special gentle giant at Peaceful Acres Horses.
