Kids & Teens Horse-Care Apprenticeship

At Peaceful Acres – Pattersonville, NY

A hands-on, wholesome, rewarding and memorable experience for kids and teens who are interested in horses and what it takes to maintain their wellbeing and stable.  We are accepting new participants for our October 21 – November 21 session. There are spots for 4 kids and 4 teens to enjoy this special after-school program.

Participants can expect to spend valuable time in a nature-based, beautifully scenic place surrounded by many rescued horses, donkeys, minis and mules, plus a few really cool goats! You will learn the foundations and basics of safety around equines, how to tend to their feed and cleaning their spaces and why these things are necessary to do in special ways for individuals. Many of our rescued horses are retired, senior, or special needs. You will get a real-world tangible escape in a world of screens and isolation. We have a mentality of being Stability Fit at Peaceful Acres, meaning we like to get and stay physically, mentally and emotionally fit by working in and around the Stable here. You will get the benefits of movement and the stimulation of hands-on learning to be sure to help you feel great. Teens will have the opportunity to learn to catch and halter “their horse” from the pasture, groom, bond and be introduced to Natural Horsemanship handling techniques. Participants gain a greater understanding of the importance of good leadership skills and body language. Bonus: horses and donkeys are interesting, majestic and fun!

We’re looking forward to introducing you to the Peaceful Acres Horses Rescues!

“Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to provide proper care and work with a rescued horse that needs a buddy of their own. The teens will learn the fundamentals of natural horsemanship, building rapport, communication, handling, and grooming. This is a fun, empowering, engaging, active, and nature-based program. Through these activities participants will learn respect for themselves, respect for others, and respect for the Rescues. As well as learning responsibility for their actions and responsibility for the care of the Rescues.” ~Chloe
