PAH Volunteer Reviews
“When I started volunteering at Peaceful Acres several years ago, I was so impressed with the accomplishments of Nanci and her team of caregivers. They work hard to find the resources to rescue and care for horses, minis, donkeys, and mules, giving them a second chance after being abandoned, often in the slaughter pipeline. Nanci and her caregivers offer love, compassion, and a forever home for America’s forgotten equines. In addition, the rehabilitation work she has done to re-home equines eligible for adoption placement is nothing short of a miracle. Nanci’s work is inspiring, and it’s uplifting to know that such a beautiful piece of land in upstate New York is being utilized for this worthy endeavor.” -A

“I am so proud to be associated as a volunteer caregiver with this rescue sanctuary for horses, donkeys and mules. In addition to providing training and support for her valued volunteers, Executive Director Nanci Beyerl has devoted her life, heart, intelligence, education and resources toward providing a permanent, safe and healthy home for these majestic animals to live out their natural life span. These otherwise slaughter-bound equines would have had no chance of surviving because of thoughtless overbreeding, our society’s “throw-away” mentality and a general failure to plan for the animals’ retirement. Nanci uses her business acumen, her contacts in the rescue community and her partnership with outstanding veterinarians and equine specialists to assure stability and health for her equine residents. With her background in social work, she has developed several programs that give people of all ages and health needs a chance to interact with (the) animals in a beautiful environment. It is a true honor to be part of this humane work in progress. I invite you to join this worthwhile organization.”

“Just by volunteering for a few hours each week at PAH, I have found that it helps me physically and emotionally. I am proud to be a small part of the task of helping animals who have been rescued from horrible circumstances. Plus the fact that I’ve always loved horses and am learning so much about them!” -K.R.

“Eight months before I started volunteering at PAH, I broke my leg and had to have a few months of physical therapy. It was frustrating because I like to be active physically and mentally. When I started walking too much too soon, I experienced serious pain in both knees. I finally got a cortisone shot, which helped my knees, but I was still hesitant about walking and hurting them again. But now, as a volunteer at PAH, my physical confidence has improved, my mind gets a break from daily worries, and I am able to walk up the sloping road without pain! But it’s the feeling of calm and peace that has helped me most. The name “Peaceful Acres” brings not only peace to the horses, but also to me. I love being around the horses and cherish my time there with them.” -K.R
Stay for a Cause Guest Reviews
“I am a blogger so my more detailed writing will go there but in the 19 months since we been full time travelers and using Harvest Hosts frequently I can say this was our favorite stay as of now. There is so much hope and love at Peaceful Acres Horses. Over 300 horses, donkeys and mules life’s have been saved thanks to Nanci who is the heart and soul of this ranch. If you are in this area please chose them as they greatly benefit from any help we as campers can give. Nanci is a very gracious and generous host who will give you a background and why this matters so much.”

“Nanci is a wonderful person. Once we arrived she drove us up to the location and allowed us to decide how we wanted to set up our rigs. There were 3 of us traveling together with a 43’ Momentun, a 44’ River Stone, and a 40’ Tiffin. The location was level and there was room for all three of our rigs. The location was beautiful and we will not hesitate to return to this location.”

“This is great place to stay. The hosts are super nice and communication was great. The views are out standing. The driveway in and out will fit any rig size. Michael R”
Volunteer Testimonial
“On a Sunday in October 2021, I attended a “Stable Day” event at Peaceful Acres Horses. It had been almost 30 years since losing my Palomino, my best friend of 20 years. Being in the presence of the rescues, hearing their stories, the smells, the sounds, brought me back to times spent with my horse. I wanted to be in that environment again.

We have stayed at many Harvest Hosts across the country and this one is the best so far. Communication with Nanci was excellent. She met us at the gate and escorted us up the hill to a repurposed tennis court to set up on. Beautiful expansive view of the countryside. This is an animal rescue that has horses, donkeys, ponies and one goat, our dogs loved walking around the acreage with all it’s new smells. Nanci couldn’t have been more accommodating. We had long conversations and now consider her a friend. We were happy to pay a little extra for a three night stay that proved to be relaxing and rewarding. We can’t wait to come back again. Thank you Nanci for the peaceful stay & continued success at your rescue acres. |
“Nanci is an angel to have rescued all these animals. Her property is stunning. I stayed at the top on the repurposed tennis courts which were nice and level. It overlooked the farm and you could see some of the animals. Me, and my dog, Meadow, hung out on the deck of the cabin a little ways up while stopping to meet some horses. Such a great find on Harvest Host. I wish Nanci MUCH success with her endeavors. We loved it there and would stay again.” Deby B
“This was such a wonderful stay! We had so much fun! The propriety is awesome. This place is doing a real difference for those rescues. Thanks to all the beautiful and caring people that we’ve met! You can count on us to spread the word about this amazing place! We highly recommend this experience to everyone! ~ Marie”
“This is a beautiful location, not far off from I 90. You do climb quite a hill to get here but well worth it. The hosts are super nice. We were parked on an old tennis court, so it was perfectly level. And we had donkeys and horses for our neighbors. The view was gorgeous!”
“Our host Nanci, was wonderful; Peaceful Acres Horses, is so aptly named. Our site for the RV had amazing views of the horses and donkeys, and the sunsets were stunning. The next morning I had asked if I could volunteer, and so I was able to help feed and water the horses and to muck-out stalls and pastures! We will definitely go back again! ~ Ann”
